Hey there! It’s Amber, your beauty wannabe pal who’s been obsessed with hair care since I could hold a brush.
After years of trying every trick, product, and hack under the sun (and a few flops I’ll never admit to), I’m spilling my secrets for how to take care of your hair in 2025, so it sparkles with health and shine.
This step-by-step plan is for YOU – because you’re the belle here!
Quick Hair Health Check: What’s Your Hair Telling You?
Before we jump into how to take care of your hair, let’s do a quick check-in with those lovely locks – because every belle’s hair has its own personality, right? Grab a mirror and let’s see what you should focus the most on!
- Dry and Brittle. If your hair ends snap like twigs or feel like straw, your hair’s begging for moisture. My oiling step and deep masks will be your new besties – keep on reading!
- Oily Roots, Dry Ends. Been there! Focus on shampoo and leave-in conditioner steps.
- Split Ends or Breakage. Too much heat or brushing gone wild?.. Bond builders in my conditioner step and gentle brushing will save the day – no more sad strands!
- Flat and Limp. If your hair’s just lying there, peptides and a good ionic blowdry will lift it up and add some va-va-voom. We’ll touch that too.
Take a sec to listen to your hair – it’s telling you what it craves! Then, follow along with my routine to give it exactly that. I’ve got your back with tips that work for whatever your locks throw at you.

How To Take Care Of Your Hair in 2025: Perfect Hair Care Routine + Products
In 2025, learning how to take care of your hair is all about nourishing, protecting, and having fun with high-tech stuff. Just like skincare! Follow this healthy hair care routine, get regular trims, and your hair will thank you with strength, shine, and that “wow” factor. Guaranteed.
Step 1: Brush with Love (Modern Brushes Enter The Chat)
Before you even think about washing, grab a brush – trust me, it’s a game-changer. Brushing detangles, spreads natural oils, and preps your hair for the good stuff. Brushing also prevents breakage and keeps your scalp happy. The best way to brush is to start at the ends and work up to the roots – gentle vibes only, please!
If you want the best brush I ever had, go for a spiral hair brush. It feels amazing on scalp (use in zigzag motion for the best at-home massage), glides through knots better than other detangler brushes and seriously speeds up drying time. I just love it.
Step 2: Shampoo Smart (Sulfate-Free, Please!)
Greasy hair is not nice, so next up is cleansing. Now, in 2025, it’s all about sulfate-free shampoos that clean without stripping your hair of its natural oils. Sulfates dry out your hair quickly, dulling that natural glow, so it’s best to avoid them.
If you have dry hair like me, you will love CHI Keratin Shampoo – it’s very effective at restoring moisture, softness and shine. On a budget, or looking for a cleaner option? Try Herbal Essences Shampoo with Honey, camellia oil and aloe vera – it’s a good moisturizing shampoo with natural ingredients. Lather gently, massage and rinse with lukewarm water.
Sometimes, when in a rush, or if you have oily hair, you can also go the dry shampoo route. However, I don’t recommend doing that more than once a week, because dry shampoos can clog your scalp. Suffocated hair roots can result in hair loss.
Also, it’s important to use clarifying shampoo once in a while. For my hair, once in two weeks is enough. Clarifying shampoos clear product build-up, remove excess oil and give a “clean slate” for your hair. Sadly, they are likely to have sulfates in the ingredients list – its stripping power is the one that cuts through the product residue… So, use clarifiers with care, especially if you’re trying to preserve your hair color.
Step 3: Condition with Keratin or Bond Builders
Conditioner is non-negotiable, essential part. It’s important to use conditioner after every shampooing – it’s like a big hug for your strands! After rinsing shampoo, apply from mid-lengths to ends. Let it sit for 3-5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
In 2025, I’m all about formulas with keratin, peptides, or bond builders for that extra oomph. Now, Olaplex No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner has been the best solution for a really long time now – those bond builders fix damage like magic and they are especially useful for fine hair.
But for a strong, healing power, I would go with keratin. I swear, nothing heals my hair better than keratin! The amino acids in it strengthen and smooth, while bond builders repair past heat or coloring damage – choose accordingly.
My highly recommended keratin conditioner is again from CHI Keratin line. If you have dry hair, brittle hair, damaged hair or split ends, using this conditioner will restore your hair’s glory in just a few washes. Interestingly, the longer you use this conditioner, the less of it you need because healthy hair doesn’t ask for a lot. The right products can make and keep your hair healthy.
P. S. Rinse with cold water to seal the cuticle – shinier hair, guaranteed!
Step 4: Deep Mask Once a Week
Hair masks hydrate, repair and improve hair texture – think of them as your hair’s reset button. Once a week, swap your regular conditioner for a deep treatment – it’s like a spa day for your hair, and who doesn’t love that? If you use a good conditioner, once a week should be enough, but you can do it twice a week if your hair needs some true love and care.
After shampooing, slather on a rich hair mask (just the hair shaft, skip your scalp), comb it through with a wide-toothed comb and relax for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with warm water and feel the softness.
For great results, I am happy to recommend highly effective, inexpensive Korean hair mask, the 100 collagen coating protein treatment by Elizavecca. Absolute winner for any type of hair + lovely price!
Want luxe? K18 Leave-In Molecular Repair Mask with peptides works in just 4 minutes and never – trust me – never disappoints. Unless we are talking about its price…

Step 5: Take Care Of Your Hair Issues With Hair Oiling
Hair oiling is a secret weapon when it comes to keeping your hair healthy and reducing various hair concerns. There are so many oils to choose from, each with its own superpower for different hair types. Feel free to be your own hair stylist and use the one that feels most needed right now.
Which Oil To Choose For Your Hair
- Argan Oil: Hydrates and fights frizz – silky heaven, great for long hair nourishment.
- Castor Oil: Boosts growth and thickness – perfect if your hair’s thinning.
- Coconut Oil: Deeply moisturizes and adds shine + a dry scalp lifesaver.
- Olive Oil: Strengthens and softens – great for brittle strands and thick hair.
- Macadamia Nut Oil: Repairs hair damage and tames flyaways + luxe and lovely!
- Rosemary Essential Oil: Helps to control hair fall, maintain healthy scalp environment + supports healthy hair growth. Use on scalp only or mix with another oil for full hair coating.
- Shea butter: Nourishes deeply, restores moisture like a boss.
Warm a few tablespoons of oil in your hands, massage into your scalp and ends, and leave it on for an hour (or overnight!). Shampoo as usual after.
You can also mix oils for a custom hair treatment. A great combo for hair loss is rosemary essential oil and castor oil mix. For dry hair, olive and macadamia oil mix is perfect.
If you want to enhance the oil effects to your scalp, use it with a shampoo brush. Originally, it’s for scrubbing your scalp when you wash your hair, but it works perfectly as a head massager too. Using this tool helps to increase blood circulation, so your hair roots get more essential nutrients! This is perfect for scalp health.

Step 6: Leave-In Conditioner (Your Daily Hero)
After washing, a leave-in conditioner keeps your hair happy all day – this is your no-fuss glow booster. On damp hair, spritz or smooth a small amount from mid-lengths to ends of your hair – no rinsing needed.
Now, you’ve got two paths here: go silicone-free with natural ingredients or use products with silicones. Silicone-free is healthier since it avoids build-up that can weigh your hair down and even clog hair follicles over time, preventing your hair from allowing moisture in (!). Silicones, though, give that instant sleek, shiny hair look – perfect for a quick visual wow.
For a silicone-free way, take a drop or two of non-smelly oil (like almond oil), warm up between your palms and apply to the lower part of your hair. It hydrates naturally and adds shine. For that glossy finish with silicones, Moroccanoil All In One Leave In Conditioner is a winner.
Generally, I lean silicone-free for long-term, natural hair care, but I grab silicones in an eye blink when I want my hair photo-ready!
Step 7: Blow Dry with Ionic Care
Of course, avoiding hot tools and heat styling is best for our hair, but it’s hard to skip the hair dryer, especially when in a rush. Thankfully, there’s good news.
Drying your hair doesn’t have to be a frizz fest – 2025’s ionic blow dryers are here to save the day, belles. Negative ions speed up drying and boost shine – less heat, more glam. I am so happy to see that most blow dryers have this function built in now, even the affordable ones!
To dry perfectly: towel-dry first (a microfiber towel is super helpful), apply a heat protectant, then dry on medium heat. If you want straight hair, dry with the nozzle pointing down. Finish with a cool shot.
Step 8: Wear Protective Hairstyles While Sleeping
Now that your hair’s clean, nourished, and sparkling, let’s go that one extra step – protect your hair strands with protective hairstyles at night. They help reduce friction against your pillow, so – less strain on your natural texture and less breakage.
Protective Hairstyles
- Loose Braids: Low-maintenance and breakage-proof option. Best choice for thicker hair.
- Twist-Outs: Great for wavy hair, curly hair + gives texture and volume the next day. My curly belles, this is yours!
- Low Buns: Sleek and chic, but not comfortable if you like to sleep on your back.
- Pigtails: More comfortable to sleep with. Choose low pigtails if you have short hair.
- You can also sleep with a satin bonnet – you will feel like a queen, and wake up with healthy-looking hair.
How To Take Care Of Your Hair in Summer
One more tip for summer! Summer is all about glowing vibes, but those high temperatures, salty water and gleaming UV glow? Not so great for your hair. Hats and UV protectors are a good idea here!
- Hats Are Your BFF. Pop on a cute wide-brim hat – instant shade and style! It’s the easiest way to block excessive heat and some UV rays.
- Use hair UV Protectors for Extra Glow. Spritz on a UV-protecting spray – think sunscreen for your strands. A good sun protection is RHRI Premium SPF 30 Hair sunscreen spray with resveratrol (antioxidant) and copper peptides.
- Water Protection. Use a swim cap or put your hair in a high bun if you plan swimming in the pool.
With a hat and a quick spray, you’ll keep your mane shiny and strong all summer long.
Final Thoughts
There you have it – a foolproof plan for how to take care of your hair in 2025! If you follow this, I promise – you will have beautiful hair. Brushing prep, gentle shampoo, keratin conditioner, deep masks, oiling, scalp care, leave-in protectants, ionic blowdrying, and protective styles will seal the deal. Want to go even further? Avoid chemical treatments at all costs, maintain a balanced diet and drink enough water every day.
P. S. I’ve tested hundreds of hair care products over the years (my hubby can vouch for the bathroom stash), and these are the ones that make me feel like a belle. However, you can absolutely use other hair products, just look for similar active ingredients!
