Here are some of the main things you will need to consider as you get ready for the procedure.
Medical History
When you go for an initial consultation with your surgeon, they will take a detailed medical history. This will include asking questions about any conditions that you might have, including high blood pressure. You will also be asked about any nasal defects that you might have that are causing breathing difficulties. It’s also a good idea to bring any prescriptions that you take along with you since the surgeon will also need to know about any medications that you are on. Your doctor will inform you of any medications that you will need to either continue or discontinue before and after your surgery and for how long.
Photographs
Your nose will be photographed from different angles, and computer software will be used to show you how your nose can be changed with this procedure. Along with this, the photos that are taken now will also be your ‘before’ photo. You can look at nose job before and after photos to get a better idea of what you can expect.
Smoking
If you are a smoker, you will need to be prepared to stop smoking for at least two weeks before having the procedure and wait for at least two to three weeks after the procedure before you start again. If you want help quitting smoking, your doctor can help with this. Quitting smoking before and after the procedure is important since it can have an impact on your levels of bleeding and bruising during surgery, along with your recovery time.
Food and Drink
Before the procedure, make sure that you stock up on plenty of water and other drinks since you will be breathing through your mouth at first, which can lead to your mouth drying out faster. It’s also a good idea to stock up on foods that do not put a lot of pressure on your mouth and teeth when chewing. Soft foods are a better choice for your meals in a week or two after having the procedure done.
Driving
After the procedure, you will not be able to drive for at least twenty-four hours since you will be impaired by the anesthesia. Since you will usually be able to go home earlier than this if the procedure is successful, it’s a good idea to arrange for somebody to collect you and drive you from the clinic ahead of time.
As with any surgery, the right preparation can help you get the best results from your rhinoplasty procedure!
