3 Most Common Causes Of Stress + Helpful Relief Strategies

We recommend helpful products in our articles. Read our full disclosure here.

Stress is a normal part of daily life that all of us experience. Various factors, such as work, finances, health issues, relationships, etc., may cause it. And although it isn’t uncommon to experience stress now and then, and it can be advantageous in some situations, overly stressing out can negatively impact physical and mental well-being.

When a person faces a stressful situation, the body reacts physically. The nervous system releases certain hormones that prompt the body to fight or flee from the situation. You may experience increased heart rate, sweating, and muscle tension when this happens. Some people may also experience stress-based incontinence that may stem from muscle tension or an overloaded nervous system coping with a highly stressful situation.

Below are some of the more common causes of stress and helpful tips on managing them.

Work stress

One of the most common causes of stress among many people is work-related. This type of stress can result from various factors, including rushing to meet deadlines, increasing workloads, or problematic co-workers. To help manage work-related stress, prioritising tasks and learning to manage your time can keep you from feeling overwhelmed by things you need to accomplish.

Additionally, prioritising your tasks can help you complete what is necessary throughout the day. It is also best to place boundaries between your personal and work time while taking much-needed breaks during the working day to give your body and mind a chance to recharge.

Financial stress

Financial stress is another common type of stress that many people deal with. Whether due to an uncertain economy or more personal financial challenges, it can cause sleepless nights. If you are going through financial stress, it will help to create a budget to start monitoring your expenses. You can see where your money goes and make wiser financial decisions with a budget. In addition, it would be a good idea to seek help from a professional financial planner to provide expert advice and support.

Relationship stress

It is not uncommon to go through relationship stress with family members, friends, or lovers. Frequently, lack of communication and conflicting ideas are the source of this type of stress. When you start communicating, you understand where the other person is coming from. Unfortunately, this also means you must learn to listen more.

Often, we may not hear what the other person is trying to say because our minds are focused on what we want to express. Listening to one another and respectfully expressing your feelings and thoughts will improve your relationship and reduce stress. You may also want to get help from a counsellor if the relationship remains stressful and challenging to handle.

While stress may be normal, it is still necessary to identify what causes it and take the necessary steps to manage it. Remember that chronic stress can lead to more serious health issues and add to your stress. When you address its underlying causes and implement techniques to reduce stress, you can minimise its negative effects on your overall well-being and live a happier and more peaceful life.
