Hey, here’s what most people don’t understand about weight loss: it usually comes down to your habits. This is true whether you believe it or not.
People who are thin usually have better habits than overweight people. They have the habits of eating better, exercising and avoiding junk food – there’s no surprise. So if you’re struggling to lose weight it’s more than likely that you have a set of bad habits which are keeping you overweight!
I’ve made a little research and put together a list of the worst habits that prevent weight loss. By ditching these, you will be able to lose weight faster than ever before. Ready?
Stop Doing These Things To Lose Weight Faster
Eating in front of the TV
It’s been found that you can eat up to 5-10 times (!!) more while watching TV. This happens because you basically trance out in front of the tube and end up overeating without realizing it.
To lose weight faster, you should either skip TV-eating completely (which, I admit, is probably impossible with all those new Netflix shows coming up), or you can make compromises and at least choose healthier foods whenever you want to eat and watch TV at the same time.
Not getting enough sleep
If you don’t get enough sleep, it can make you feel hungry even if you are full. Studies have also proven that regular insomnia can increase fat storage in your body, so to lose weight faster, make sure you get at least 8 hours of deep sleep every night.
Shopping when you’re hungry
This is a big one for a loooot of people! Never go shopping when you are hungry – you’ll end up buying a ton of calorie-rich foods because whenever you’re hungry, your brain simply will drive you crazy with all those cravings! To prevent mindless hunger-shopping, eat something filling and healthy before you go into the grocery store.
Drinking too much
Alcoholic beverages contain enormous amounts of calories. It’s okay to have a drink once in a while, even if you’re on a diet… But if you want to lose weight faster, think about the calories before you start and try to limit yourself to one or two drinks. Ideally, you should quit drinking entirely.
Drinking sugary drinks
This goes hand in hand along with the above point. People who are overweight are usually in the habit of drinking sugary fizzy drinks. These drinks contain massive amounts of calories and are extremely bad for you. To lose weight faster, you need to break this habit! If you can’t do this cold turkey, you can at least use a smaller cup in the meantime.
Eating low-fat foods
The unfortunate truth about, “low-fat foods” is that they’re not very good for you. These foods contain sugars and chemicals which can improve their taste but they also can be a lot worse than fat. Empty sugars also digest faster which will leave you hungry and wanting to eat more. Stick to healthy whole foods to lose weight faster, and don’t shy away from full-fat foods – the key is to control how much of it you eat anyway.
Skipping meals
This is one of the worse things you can do, even though it might feel like the right idea when trying to lose weight faster. Skipping meals makes your metabolism slow down, and leads to overeating episodes later in the day.
Also, a lot of people skip breakfast because they think it will help them lose weight but that’s really not true. Aim for at least three square meals a day.
Eating too quickly
When you eat quickly, you eat more. You need to slow down, eat consciously and savor your food. Each meal should take you at least 20 minutes to get through.
You can slow down your eating by taking smaller bites and chewing your food for longer.
Eating fast food and processed food
These types of foods contain huge amounts of salt, fat, and sugar. Eating them will keep you overweight and negatively affect your health. To get skinny, you need to eat less fast food or cut these foods out of your life entirely.
P. S. I have learned a lot about eating a clean, healthy diet from this wonderful book written by Gwyneth Paltrow and I really recommend it for anyone who wants to clean up their diet (either for health, weight loss or beauty):
The Clean Plate: Eat, Reset, Heal
To lose weight faster… Start with taking measurements!
Before starting any weight loss regimen, take measurements so you can track your progress.
Tracking the changes can help you lose weight faster because you can see what works and what doesn’t, and correct your fitness program accordingly.
The basic measurements should include your weight, BMI, body fat ratio as well as measurements of your waist. Following your progress can help you to stay on track and motivate yourself. Taking measurements also lets you know if you’re actually losing weight and if what you’re doing is working.
Eating too many carbs
The fact is that too many carbs can slowly make you fat and they’re also extremely addictive! Overweight people tend to eat way too many carbs and this is one of the easiest habits to ditch. To counter hunger when you decrease your carbohydrate consumption, simply try to eat more protein as it increases the feelings of fullness. And of course, you will definitely lose weight faster if you feel full and satiated more often.
