There’s nothing quite like crawling into a beautifully made bed.

From soft linens to cushy pillows, our beds should be a place that encourages rest and relaxation.

If you’re looking to transform your bed into a restful haven, here are five secrets to styling it like a pro.

1. Choose a high-quality mattress

Before we get to the styling, it’s worth paying some attention to the base – after all, you want it to feel as good as it looks.

Start with your mattress.

There are a range of different styles and mattress firmness to suit your needs.

From plush to medium and even some firm, choose a style of luxury mattress that supports you as you sleep.

Don’t forget about the mattress protector either.

While it may not scream luxury, keeping your mattress free of spills and stains is one way to ensure your mattress stays in great condition for years to come.

2. Start with a colour palette

Now that we’ve got the base covered, it’s time to get to styling.

If you’ve seen those beautifully-made beds on social media, you might have noticed that they all seem to be coloured coordinated.

Choosing a colour palette is a great place to start when styling your bed.

There are no rules on what colour palette you should pick.

Instead, it’s all about creating a space that you love.

Go for colours that you’re naturally drawn to, and that help you feel calm and relaxed.

For some, that will be soothing neutrals, while others love a pop of colour.

You may even want to have multiple palettes, changing them out when you change your bedding – this way your bed gets a fresh look along with those fresh sheets.

3. Add layers with a quilt/comforter and a throw

A quick way to add a touch of style to your bed is with layers – with both a duvet and a throw (or two).  This way, you’re accommodating for varying temperatures, while providing opportunities to add extra colour and texture.

Something all luxury beds have in abundance is texture.

A duvet/comforter adds texture through its filling, while the cover gives you the opportunity to play with colours and prints made from different materials.

Linen is a great look to add a touch of laid-back luxury, plus the texture adds a fine detail for your styling.

A throw can complete the look that your sheet set and duvet/comforter provide when it’s both folded neatly or just by throwing it on the end of your bed.

You could even use a throw to match any cushions you may have, which brings us to the next step.

4. Add volume and cosiness with pillows

You may already have one or two sleeping pillows on your bed.

But did you know that additional pillows with different shapes are a great way to make it feel cosier with volume.

European Pillows

European pillows are both functional and fashionable – functional as they may help support your back if you like to sit up in bed to read or watch TV, and fashionable as their square shape provides an aesthetically pleasing contrast to your rectangular sleeping pillows.

Decorative Pillows

Decorative pillows, such as cushions and throw pillows, come in all shapes and sizes from square to cylindrical, but are usually smaller than standard and European pillows.

Decorative pillows are another way to add colour, pattern and texture to your bed, and are the perfect finishing touch.

Arranging Your Pillows

When it comes to arranging them, the easiest and most stylish way is to group them together by size – have your two standard pillows lying in their usual spot, then place your European pillows in front of them, and then your decorative pillows in front of the European pillows.

This arrangement provides an elegant, symmetrical and luxurious look, but this is just a guide.

Style your pillows the way you enjoy and you can’t go wrong.

5. Complete the look with finishing touches

Now that your bed has been made, layered and styled, all that’s left is to complete the look with finishing touches to make it even more cosy and inviting.

Sleep and linen sprays are a great finishing touch when styling your bed as they can add pleasant and relaxing aromas to help you sleep, and may help keep your bed and bedding fresh.

While lavender and chamomile are known to be calming scents, sleep and linen sprays can come in other fruity and relaxing scents that can make your bed smell great and inviting.

For other finishing touches, you may want to add a lamp to your nightstand to add softer lighting to your space.

Now that you know about these five styling secrets, you can easily transform your bed into a luxurious and relaxing haven where you can easily get a good night’s sleep, and enhance the look of your bedroom for years to come.
